Our Story

The Sunnah Soup Program, masterfully designed and directed by our very own Sister Malika, embodies the spirit of unity and compassion. Women from diverse backgrounds contribute to a nurturing and heartwarming pot of soup, which is then distributed to the elderly, the sick, students, and anyone in need of warmth and care.

Initiated during the COVID lockdown, the program demonstrated how a simple act of delivering a meal could have a profound impact. Today, the program continues to touch lives with the same heartfelt impact, embodying the spirit of community and care.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When you make some soup, make a good amount by adding plenty of liquid, and give some to your neighbors.”

As-salaam alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh, my name is Sr. Malika and first and foremost I would like to dedicate the Sunnah Soup Program to one of my beloved Ustadha’s, Sister Fayrouz — May Allah SWT grant her the highest place in Jannah. She told me that this work was following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ which is how the name “Sunnah Soup” was born.

As a convert to Islam, I was overwhelmed by how something so simple and non-monetary could spread so much joy and healing. Handing someone a warm bowl of soup became an act of sadaqah that also healed my own wounded heart, Alhamdulillah.

There is a well-known hadith:

“He is not a believer whose stomach is filled while his neighbor goes hungry.”

Checking on neighbors, sharing food, and building community brought a gratitude that was truly priceless. It reminded me that compassion and care still exist in this busy world. Food can nourish not only the body, but also the soul.

May Allah SWT bless all who give, cook, deliver, and support this effort.

Ameen.
